March 6, 2018 –Orange Beach, Al—One of the Gulf Coast’s most unique and adventurous attractions has re-opened in Orange Beach. Hummingbird Ziplines Course, formerly Gulf Adventure Center located at Gulf State Park, is hosting its grand opening celebration with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location at The Wharf on Thursday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend with city and county officials and other local dignitaries in attendance. In addition, a drawing will be held for two lucky winners to zip the course for free. Anyone can enter, but the winners must be in attendance at the event.
The new and improved Hummingbird Ziplines Course (HZC) is now located at The Wharf in Orange Beach – 4830 Main Street, Suite G-114.
“As the newest attraction at The Wharf, we are excited to show off our new, longer, higher and faster zipline course to our guests,” said Tom Schlinkert, managing partner of Hummingbird Ziplines Course at The Wharf. “It’s wonderful to hear the familiar buzz of people zipping by overhead again.”
HZC is the highest and longest course in Alabama. The course features eight ziplines, some as high as 115 feet off the ground, and traverses more than 6,000 feet. Participants can expect to experience speeds reaching 40 miles-per-hour while gliding from tower to tower.
Two guides escort each group of 10 zippers around the 2.5-hour course. Each guide’s primary role is to ensure the participant’s safety and enjoyment, while also educating him or her about the environment along the way.
HZC is not simply a thrill ride. The course offers a rich combination of stunning views of coastal estuaries, the Intracoastal Waterway and federally-protected wetlands, paired within an urban setting at The Wharf. The course is unique in that it is the only professionally designed and constructed zipline on the Gulf Coast that is accredited by the Association for Challenge Course Technology.
Although quite exhilarating, HZC leaves its guests with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie, creating a shared bond among the family and friends with whom they participated. The excitement and high-fives heard from the groups as they come off of the course is evidence enough that it’s a premier Gulf Coast attraction.
MEDIA NOTE: For officials and working media, there will be a limited number of complimentary passes to zip the course before the Grand Opening. For details, please contact course manager Corey Bryan – corey@gulfadventurecenter.com – to reserve a spot ASAP.
