National Naval Aviation Museum Hosts Meet and Greet with Mutts With a Mission, Featuring Service Dog Introduction

Pensacola, FL – April 15, 2024 – The National Naval Aviation Museum is proud to announce a special meet and greet event in collaboration with Mutts With a Mission (MWAM), a distinguished 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to training service dogs for disabled veterans, first responders, and law enforcement.

On Tuesday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m., the museum will welcome two exceptional service dogs in training, Rudder and Catalina, along with their dedicated MWAM trainers, Brooke Columbo and Jen Pollard.

The highlight of this event will be the introduction of Catalina, a spirited young female yellow Labrador retriever, to the esteemed WWII veteran, Ret. U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Cash Barber.

Named in honor of the legendary amphibious aircraft (PBY-5) that Lt. Cmdr. Barber flew during WWII, Catalina symbolizes MWAM’s commitment to honoring veterans through their service dog program.

At 99 years old, Lt. Cmdr. Barber continues to actively provide tours of his amphibious aircraft at NNAM. At approximately 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Barber will finally meet the namesake of his beloved aircraft at the airplane’s exhibit.

Mutts With a Mission, renowned for their exceptional dedication, previously trained Sage, who served aboard the USS Gerald Ford during a recent deployment. Beyond individual recipients, MWAM introduces service dogs to various units in the Tidewater area, aiming to reduce workplace stress for sailors assigned to duty.

This meet and greet promises a heartwarming convergence of history, service, and compassion. Rudder and Catalina will be in training around the museum throughout the day, providing guests with a unique opportunity to observe their progress.
