Thursday, May 23, 2019 –Pensacola, Fl—Today, Lighthouse Health Plan is pleased to announce a membership of more than 28,000 Medicaid members, significantly exceeding enrollment expectations. This membership represents an increase of more than 4,000 members since launching in February 2019, or an increase of approximately 17 percent. Lighthouse is the only locally-based, provider-led health plan in the Florida Panhandle.
“We set out with a bold mission to partner with provider, members, and the community for better health,” said Dr. Dan Sontheimer, Chief Medical Officer for Lighthouse Health Plan. “In the first few months we have exercised the agility of a plan that is local to respond quickly and adjust to our provider network needs.”
Dr. Sontheimer chairs two committees that are comprised of local providers, the Physician’s Advisory Council and the Federally Qualified Health Center Advisory Board. By using the valuable feedback and suggestions gained from these regular forums, Lighthouse has become a strong option for the Medicaid population. He added, “Lighthouse Health Plan truly is a community-based plan with the voice of the local doctor.”
“Our commitment to this local, provider-led model has allowed us to grow substantially over a short period of time,” said Christie Spencer, CEO, Lighthouse Health Plan. “We are proud of our growth and I want to personally thank the community for trusting and embracing us as a community partner.”
About Lighthouse Health Plan
Lighthouse Health Plan is a local, community-based health plan created and run by doctors. Lighthouse will serve Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties in Medicaid Region 1 of Florida; and Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, Wakulla, and Washington counties in Medicaid Region 2 as a Provider Service Network (PSN).
The PSN plan was created by Florida state legislature in 1997 when the Legislature authorized the Florida Medicaid program to establish a Medicaid PSN demonstration project to capitalize on high-volume Medicaid providers and their ability to manage the medical care of Medicaid beneficiaries they serve. “Provider Service Network” means an entity qualified pursuant to s.409.912(2) of which a controlling interest is owned by a health care provider, or group of affiliated providers, or a public agency or entity that delivers health services. Health care providers include Florida-licensed health care professionals or licensed health care facilities, federally qualified health care centers, and home health care agencies.
