September 19, 2017 –Pensacola Beach, Fl—The Pensacola Interstate Fair has hired state officers from the Florida Department of Agriculture to work the full 11 days of the 2017 Fair, October 19-29. The new security measures were put in place after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office declined to cover the event in the manner requested by Fair officials.

Florida Department of Agriculture officers have full law enforcement powers granted to other peace offices of the state. “We want to assure fair attendees that they can enjoy The Fair, knowing they are in a safe and secure environment at all times” said Don Frenkel, Pensacola Interstate Fair General Manager.

Security for The Pensacola Interstate Fair is funded from The Fair’s nonprofit organization and not taxpayer dollars. “We spend approximately $140,000 each year to ensure order and safety at The Fair and will continue to do so,” said Pensacola Interstate Fair Assistant Manager, Felecia Chivington.

In addition to the uniformed, Department of Agriculture offers, retired law enforcement officers and private security will be on-site to assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for fairgoers.
